Boring Statistics Make Exciting Things Happen

From WorldServe President John Bongiorno

Statistics are boring.  Yet they are important because financial decisions are made based on statistics. Hundreds of millions of dollars will flow in a certain direction because of a statistic.  You may see this in the batting average of a professional athlete, the scoring average of a team, or the performance of mutual funds.  Whether in sports or in the financial world, it is statistics that determine where money goes.

Statistics can also be sobering.  For example, at least 25,000 people die every day as a result of unclean water.  Did you know that 80 percent of all the hospitals beds in the world are occupied by someone with a preventable water-related disease?  More than 1.1 billion people do not have access to clean drinking water.  The world’s number one killer is unsafe water.

These statistics, just like others, should determine the flow of money.

WorldServe is doing something about this water crisis.  By forming Maji-Tech Engineering, a water solutions company, we are responding to an African need with an Africa-based solution.  I have found that when you bring together a group of business people who see these statistics, they will let their resources flow into solving problems.  When you present a great need such as the water shortages experienced throughout Africa and other regions, business people with a heart for God and head for business will find solutions.

Maji-Tech (“maji” being the Kiswahili word for “water”) is a sustainable water drilling company.  As a business solution to a great world need, Maji-Tech has become the largest private sector drilling company in East Africa serving such organizations as the World Bank, the Africa Development Fund, and US AID.  Maji-Tech also serves a variety of NGOs and faith-based organizations.  Maji-Tech has committed its profits to offering deeply-discounted water wells to churches, schools, and orphanages, providing life-giving water to poor communities that do not have resources to pay.  These communities know that water is critical not only in issues of health but also of food.  In addition to providing water for drinking, cleaning, and bathing, Maji-Tech is able to drill agricultural boreholes and through its partnerships teach drip irrigation techniques which enhance the growth of crops.

The goal is to replicate this sustainable model in other countries beginning on the continent of Africa.  By assessing, accessing, and administering the water resources in Africa, these sobering statistics will turn into sustainable development.

Maji-Tech has committed itself to not only providing clean water, but also presenting the Living Water Jesus Christ.  Our drilling teams travel with a chaplain who has a sound system and the ability to present The Jesus Film.  When hundreds and even thousands gather to watch the rig drill for water, they receive the good news about a water they can drink and never thirst again.  Indeed, as Jesus said, this water will become a well of water springing up unto eternal life (John 4:14).  Friends, this is a powerful combination: life-giving clean water and the Living Water Jesus Christ!

We need your support.  WorldServe has been asked to replicate this model in several countries.  Recently WorldServe International received word that Angel Christian Television Trust / God TV and James River Assembly of Springfield, Missouri will provide 2 more drilling rigs to Maji-Tech.  In addition to this, one of the great international relief organizations, Convoy of Hope, has agreed to provide additional rigs for expansion into other countries.  WorldServe has accepted the responsibility to replicate the successful model of Maji-Tech and has committed to hiring key personnel, as well as investing in this expansion opportunity.

Will you partner with us in this great challenge?  Perhaps you want to sponsor a drilling rig or possibly finance the start-up of an operation in another country.  Maybe you want to provide clean water to a desperate community.

We have plenty of opportunities for investment.  Check out the statistics and allow your dollars to flow into Life-giving water!  This investment will yield eternal rewards and a blessing from our heavenly Father!  Matthew 25:34-35 says, ”Then the King will say to those on the right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, prepared for you since the creation of the world.  For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink…”
