07/24/11 – Goodwill Ambassador of Tanzania and WorldServe International Board Member Doug Pitt was honored with a cast of three others at this year’s Starkey Hearing Foundation awards gala.

“So The World May Hear Gala” was held July 24th at the River Centre in St. Paul, Minnesota where 1600 supporters came together to help raise $7.2 million. This was the most monies raised to date from the annual gala. The funding will help further the Starkey Hearing Foundation mission to change the social consciousness of hearing through education and research while providing the gift of hearing to those in need around the world.

This year’s honorees along with Ambassador Pitt included actress Marlee Maitlin, former U.S. President Bill Clinton and global business leader Randy Hogan. Doug Pitt was honored not only for his extensive philanthropic work in Africa and America but for his participation with Starkey’s hearing missions program, helping Starkey distribute hearing aids to the less fortunate. The Starkey Hearing Foundation goal is to deliver more than 1,000,000 hearing aids to those in need around the world this decade.

During the 2011 awards gala, guests were also treated to performances by an illustrious list of artists including Reba McIntyre, Meat Loaf and Miley Cyrus. Cyrus participated in Starkey’s hearing mission to Haiti earlier this year and has since lent her support to the foundation’s Listen Carefully campaign.

John Rich also surprised gala attendees with a special performance alongside award-winning actress Marlee Matlin. Kevin Costner & Modern West served as the headliner for the gala’s after-party.
