Bike For Water 2021

Riding to bring clean water, health and sanitation to people in need

2021 Rides - What's it all about

For the past five years, a group of sometimes awesome folks have come together for a weekend of cycling, suffering, intense laughter, and deepened relationships. This year, I am tripling the pain but also the reward…for those people in need of clean water.  The “Journey of Awesomeness” is a 2-day, 204 mile round-trip trek from Charlottesville to Ashland.  The “Ride for Light” is a 511 mile trek from the Colorado/New Mexico border to Albuquerque.

I’m riding because:

  • It’s funishable (fun+enjoyable+punishing)
  • Provides meaningful connection within the riders and our community
  • Pushes us, unites us for a common goal, gets us off the couch/out of the house, and brings glory to our Amazing Creator, and
  • Generates $ for an amazing cause, all the while liberating us all a teeny bit more!

Why Water

Globally, more than 800 million people live without access to clean water. Beyond this, more than 2 billion people live without improved sanitation. Both situations have dire consequences. A lack of clean water:

  • Reduces the chance for education and other life enhancements
  • Causes life-threatening illness, especially for children

To overcome this daunting challenge, we’re asking for your help.  For nearly two decades, WorldServe has quietly and steadfastly attacked the water crisis through well projects undertaken in collaboration with faith-based, governmental, educational, and other organizations.  Since its founding, WorldServe has focused on the “long haul,” working with village leaders – especially women – to successfully transform countless communities.   With water as the foundation, a community’s potential accelerates rapidly.  WorldServe is right – Water Changes Everything!

We Want to Do More: Can You Help?

On Saturday and Sunday, June 19 & 20, 2021 and Sept 6-10, 2021 in solidarity with millions who travel dozens of miles both ways every day to find unclean water, we will ride 204 miles, raising awareness and money (our own money included!) to bring clean water to people in need.  If you are moved to ride send an email to david@worldserveintl.org to learn more.

My goal is to raise $6,000 to help transform the lives of children and families living in East Africa. Your donation will support:

  • The cost of the drilling operations (rig and crew support)
  • Construction of tank and pump house
  • Solar energy

Please consider donating.  Donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law in any amount that works for you! Your funds will be gratefully accepted and efficiently used!
